SustainAbility's Gary Kendall comments on climate change in developing countries for the Financial Times

“The discussion is always about what the north should be transferring to the south,” says Gary Kendall, climate change director at Sustainability, the consultancy. “But take electric vehicles – that’s a very effective climate mitigation tool and that’s an industry being led by developing countries.”

Implementation is a key issue for rich countries as well. As Mr Kendall points out, talk of helping poor nations manage climate change cuts no ice when rich countries are still failing to cut greenhouse gas emissions, despite having access to energy-efficient technologies.

“There’s this idea that we have all this great technology and if only we could get it into developing countries, there wouldn’t be a problem,” says Mr. Kendall. “But we are not destroying the planet for lack of technology – we’re destroying it for lack of application of technology.”
