What contribution does sport make to sustainable development? This is the
question that we consider in this issue of Radar, prompted in part by the launch of the 28th Olympic games in Athens. As the back-cover illustrates, sport has an enormous ability to promote more sustainable behaviour through its capacity to inspire, promote health, discipline, co-operation and
respect. But sport can also foster corruption, racism, sexism and violence. The following pages cover some of the key issues that sport – and the sports industry – face in making a positive contribution to more sustainable forms of development.
