One year after the collapse of Lehman Brothers and the US government takeover of AIG helped set in motion the “great recession”, the global economy is starting to show signs of stabilization. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke has declared that the recession is very likely over, and pundits are expressing cautious optimism for an economic rebound (despite serious problems such as unemployment).
