Kavita Prakash-Mani
Head of Food Security Agenda, Syngenta International
“With the population set to rise to 9 billion by 2050, environmental resources already under threat and changing climate a reality, we must seriously consider how we grow, distribute, price and consume food. We also need to make agriculture more productive and profitable for farmers and in turn support economic growth in developing countries and help bring people out of poverty.”
Based in Basel and London, my focus is on developing commercial solutions and business models that enhance food security while contributing to environmental sustainability and socio-economic development, especially for farmers. Growers are Syngenta’s customers and the company aims to put them at the heart of technology and knowledge solutions to increase their productivity and profitability, and to ultimately grow more from less for food security. I have a dual focus – developing appropriate solutions for smallholder farmers and looking at the opportunity to develop ecosystem services – both of which are critical for sustainable agriculture.
Prior to Syngenta, I worked with SustainAbility in the UK, the World Resources Institute in the US and SmithKline Beecham Consumer Healthcare in India.
