Brown-Forman
Strategic Advisory, Branding

SustainAbility has been a valued guide and sparring partner as Brown-Forman strives to embed corporate responsibility into everything we do – not an easy task for a 140-year old company with a broad portfolio of brands. SustainAbility’s distinct and direct approach has allowed them to build trust with colleagues, stretch our thinking, and deliver practical advice.

– Rob Frederick, VP, Director of Corporate Responsibility

Description

With our guidance, as well as a committed senior management and dedicated sustainability team, Brown-Forman has become a leader on the corporate responsibility agenda. Brown-Forman’s first corporate responsibility report – Our Long Term Perspective (2007-2008), created with our support as well – won wide acclaim for the candid way in which it addressed the company’s most material issue (alcohol responsibility).

SustainAbility has worked with Brown-Forman – the parent company of leading brands such as Jack Daniels, Finlandia, Southern Comfort and Bonterra – to integrate corporate responsibility into all that it does (a strategic imperative for the company). Our work has touched many organizational functions, and we have served as a trusted adviser on topics including alcohol responsibility, long-term strategy, brand integration, social investment, reporting, stakeholder engagement and agriculture.

Brown-Forman has also taken a bold step in launching its industry-leading “Issues Forum”, a public website on which Brown-Forman shares its opinion on difficult responsible drinking topics and encourages constructive debate between experts and the public. SustainAbility has also guided Brown-Forman on a journey to fully integrate corporate responsibility into its brand building process, which is starting to bear fruit with several brand cause-marketing campaigns.
